Tenders called for Werris Creek MPS

4 March 2011

Hunter New England Health has announced the next stage in the development of the Werris Creek Multi Purpose Service (MPS).
Tenders have been invited for the construction project and will close in early April.

Werris Creek Health Service Manager Kylie Marquart said the call for tenders was an exciting milestone for the project.

“The project team has worked with our staff and local community to develop a plan for a new health facility that will enable us to continue to provide high quality care to the people of Werris Creek,” Ms Marquart said.

“It will be very exciting to see those plans begin to take shape once a tender is appointed and building works commence.”

A successful tenderer is expected to be appointed by the middle of the year, with construction to start soon after. The MPS is expected to be about 12 months in construction and be completed in mid-2012.

The Multi Purpose Service project includes early site works, construction of the new facility and eventual demolition of the current hospital.

The new facility will include:

• A range of community health services, provided by local and visiting staff
• Flexible consulting and examination rooms for use by the GP, practice nurse and other visiting health professionals from the one building
• 4 Low care hospital beds (including respite & palliative care)
• 10 High Care Residential Aged Care Beds
• 2 Low Care Residential Aged Care Beds
• A Level 1 first aid and treatment service
• Home and Community Care (HACC)
• Aboriginal Health Services
• Aged Day Care Centre
• Early Childhood Health Clinic
• Telehealth facilities
• Clinical and operational support services
• Staff accommodation.
