New staff facility at Gloucester

8 March 2011

A new $490,000 staff accommodation facility has been officially opened at Gloucester Hospital.

The facility will help attract health professionals to work in the Hunter region by expanding the accommodation options available to them.

Gloucester District Health Service Manager and Director of Nursing and Midwifery Peter Barber was joined by past and present staff to open the facility in February.

“The new staff accommodation will help attract and retain health professionals to Gloucester, which will improve access to local health services for the people living in Gloucester and the broader Hunter region,” Mr Barber said.

“The health professionals who will be using this accommodation will be providing specialist services across hospitals in the Hunter, including Gloucester and many require more than just overnight accommodation.”

The staff accommodation building features four spacious self contained rooms with bathroom, air-conditioning, televisions, data outlets and common lounge, kitchen and laundry.

“Having an accommodation facility on site that is safe, comfortable and readily available makes Gloucester a more desirable place for health professionals to live and work in,” Mr Barber said.

“It has been great to see this facility come to fruition. It not only benefits those health professionals coming to Gloucester, but it is encouraging for current staff and the community to see new infrastructure being built to support their local health services.

“Many stages of the construction of the facility were sub-contracted to local tradespersons and businesses in order to support the Gloucester community,” Mr Barber said.

Construction of the staff accommodation began in July 2010 and was undertaken by Glenco Development
