Give your body a service at Moree Pit Stop

Hunter New England Local Health Network are inviting men to check themselves in for a pit stop at the Moree Show on Friday 8 April and Saturday 9 April between 10am and 2pm.

Acting Nursing Unit Manager at Moree Community Health Centre Anne Lemmon says the Pit Stop program from Hunter New England Local Health Network is about getting men to take better care of themselves.

“Pit Stop is a free health check-up program, which likens parts of the male anatomy to an engine,” she said.

“There are 14 different stops including one where men can have their oil levels (blood pressure) tested and spare tyre (girth) checked or a wheel balance alignment (falls prevention).

As ‘head mechanic’, Ms Lemmons says a lot of men’s health concerns are due to not knowing how to take the best care of themselves, because they are worried about taking care of everyone else.

“The mechanical concept brings an element of humour to men’s health and removes it from a clinical setting,” she said.

“We make sure men see the funny side of the program, by likening parts of their body to car parts.

“But we also make sure they know the importance of maintaining their health and having regular check-ups with their General Practitioner.

Last year, the Moree Pit Stop program helped 35 men aged from 28 to 76 who were given referrals to Moree health services, including respiratory and hearing services as well as appointments with local general practitioners.

This year the challenge will be to encourage more men to see if their body will pass the pit inspection with flying colours or need follow-up maintenance work with their general practitioner.

The Pit Stop program is a proud partnership between the staff of Moree Community Health Centre and the Rotary Club of Moree-On-Gwydir Inc.

The next Pit Stop will be held at Moree Show on Friday 8 April and Saturday 9 April between 10am and 2pm. For further information please contact Anne Lemmon or Fiona Lysaught on 67570251 or Moree Community Health Reception on (02) 6757 0200.
