Community tours for HealthOne Quirindi

29 March 2011

Quirindi residents will have an opportunity on Friday of this week to tour through the new HealthOne Quirindi facility before it opens.

HealthOne Quirindi is a one stop shop for health services that brings primary health care services under one roof, including GPs, community and allied health, and visiting medical specialists.

Small group tours of the new integrated health facility will be conducted on Friday, 1 April from 1pm.

• The tours will leave every 30 minutes from the main reception area (entrance off Nowland Street) and are expected to take about 20 to 25 minutes.

• Tour times are: 1pm, 1.30pm, 2pm, 2.30pm, 4pm, 4.30pm, 5pm, 5.30pm with the final tour at 6pm.  There will be a break between 3pm and 4pm. No bookings are required.

The tours will be conducted by Quirindi Health Service Manager Luke Sams along with Chairman of the Quirindi Local Health Advisory Committee Bob Hudson.

Mr Sams said the tours were the best chance for local residents to get a good look through their new health facility before staff move in.

“We have arranged the tours so that people can come during the afternoon, or they can pop in after they have finished work,” he said. “It’s a chance for people to come along, have a look around, share a cup of tea and ask any questions.

“We are very proud of this new facility, which has been finished ahead of schedule,” Mr Sams said.

“It is a new approach to providing health services in Quirindi which will improve access locally to a wide range of services.  We have been developing this for some years now and we would encourage local residents to come and see the end results first hand.

Community and Allied Health staff and the town’s new General Practitioners will move into the new centre from Monday, 4 April. It will open to the public the following Monday, 11 April, about four weeks ahead of schedule.

From Monday, 11 April, appointments for any of the GPs or other health services can be made by contacting (02) 6746 0200.

HealthOne Quirindi is located at the front entrance to Quirindi Hospital, off Nowland Street, and the two adjoining facilities share a common entry and reception area.

It incorporates:
• General Practitioner consulting rooms
• treatment rooms
• physiotherapy department
• paediatric therapy room for paediatric speech pathology and occupational therapy
• counselling rooms
• clinical consulting rooms, and
• an audiometry testing room to conduct hearing tests.

The new facility has been built at a cost of $2.87 million, with $2.62 million from the NSW Government and a $250,000 contribution from BHP Billiton’s Caroona Coal Project Community Fund.
