X-ray upgrade at Tamworth Hospital
Hunter New England Health is pleased to announce the completion of a $250,000 upgrade of Tamworth Hospital’s trauma x-ray room.
The investment included the installation of specialised x-ray equipment and a wireless digital imaging system, which will provide improved image quality and greater comfort for patients.
Tamworth Hospital’s Chief Radiographer, Adrian Snowden, said the $250,000 upgrades would be much welcomed by both staff and patients.
“This project is a significant investment into improving facilities at Tamworth Hospital for the long-term benefit of the community,” Mr Snowden said.
“The state-of-the-art x-ray equipment and technology provides great benefits for patients. This new system generates a digital image in a matter of seconds.
“Hunter New England Health is committed to providing high quality care, and we are pleased to be able to deliver continuous improvements in imaging equipment and facilities at the hospital.”
The new equipment has been installed in Tamworth Hospital’s recently refurbished trauma x-ray room, which was purpose-built to cater for the high trauma loads experienced at Tamworth.
“The short processing times delivered by the wireless digital system allow quicker examinations of all patients, in particular trauma cases resulting from incidents such as motor vehicle accidents,” Mr Snowden said.
Coupled with a digital archive and retrieval system, all HNE Health x-ray units are now connected electronically to all other sites throughout the Hunter New England Area Health Service.
This means an x-ray taken at one hospital can be made available online to multiple clinicians on their computer screen.
Diagnostic images are electronically stored and viewed via a computer network. Storing images electronically means they cannot be misplaced or lost like the traditional film x-rays can.
