Free information session to support Filipino carers

12 October 2010

A free information session is being held in Newcastle this month to support carers who come from a Filipino background.

The aim of the session is to provide information to Filipino carers in the Hunter about the services and resources available to them while they are caring for a loved one.

This session is being offered as part of a wider program to support Filipino people in our community, offered in collaboration between Hunter New England Health, EDuCARE, Centrelink and Relationships Australia.

HNE Health Multicultural Health Liaison Officer Se Ok Ohr said there are many carers in our communities who look after a loved one in isolation.

“It’s a tough job for anyone, but particularly difficult for carers who come from a multicultural background,” Se Ok said.

“That’s why we’re holding free information sessions – so these people can learn about services and resources that are available to carers who look after someone who is frail/aged, disabled, mentally ill or has a long term illness.

“It’s important all carers know that there are many support systems available to making caring for a loved one less challenging.”

The details for the information session are as follows:

Date:    Saturday 30 October, 2010
Time:   9:00 am to 12:30am
