Finishing touches begin on new Manilla MPS HealthOne
7 October 2010
Construction of the first stage of the new Manilla Multi-Purpose Service (MPS) and HealthOne is nearing completion.
Manilla Health Service Manager Tim Whyte said the first half of the new building is now at lock-up stage, which means tradespeople can now begin work on the interior of the facility.
“The tradies can now move on with the next big job which is to begin installing the internal furnishings and apply finishing to the exterior of the building,” Mr Whyte said.
“Inside, they can now paint, lay the floor coverings, complete the electrical and communication cabling, and begin joinery work like the installation of wardrobes in patient rooms.”
Mr Whyte said the seven residential care clients currently living at Manilla Health Service are looking forward to the completion of stage one of the new MPS.
“They have been cared for in the existing acute half of the health service while the new residential care accommodation is completed, so they are looking forward to moving into their new rooms,” Mr Whyte said.
“Once complete the residential care accommodation will include features such as new lounge room, new dining and activities room and a balcony off the eastern wing of the facility that provides views over the neighbouring valley.
“The kitchen staff are also awaiting the installation of their brand new industrial kitchen,” Mr Whyte said.
Once finished, Manilla MPS will include features such as acute care beds, residential care beds, one new birthing suite and rooms for antenatal and postnatal services, and a new two-bay emergency department complete with a more private entrance.
Construction of the facility began in January 2010, and Stage 1 of the development is expected to be complete in early 2011. All healthcare services provided by Manilla Health Service, including emergency, maternity and acute care will continue uninterrupted during construction of the new facility.
“Our staff are working well to ensure we provide good quality care to patients while the work is going on,” Mr Whyte said. “We have relocated some of our services to the older part of the hospital to ensure there is minimal disruption to patient services.
“If any community members have any questions about the redevelopment or access to our services they are more than welcome to get in touch with me at Manilla Health Service on 6785 4000,” Mr Whyte said.
