Sofa bed comfort for palliative care families
22 February 2010
A generous donation from the Scone Cancer Support Group of a sofa bed to Scott Memorial District Health Service’s palliative care room will bring comfort for families of patients.
“The sofa bed will allow relatives of terminally ill patients to stay overnight, which is really important for both the patients and their family members,” Nurse Unit Manager of the Walter Pye Ward and Emergency Department Lesley Roser said.
“We would like to thank the members of the Scone Cancer Support Group for this generous donation and recognise that with their support we are able to provide more comfort for patients and their families.
“We really appreciate all the support we have received over the years,” Lesley said.
President of the Scone Cancer Support Group Pam Saunderson-McLeay said the group decided to donate the $1650 sofa bed to enhance the facilities at the palliative care room.
“We have dressed the room with other donations over the years to make it more comfortable and we decided to purchase a second sofa bed to allow two family members to be able to stay overnight,” Pam said.
“If it wasn’t for the Scone community, we wouldn’t be able to do these things – we get such generous support through our raffles as well as regular donations from the community.”
The Scone Cancer Support Group has been providing practical assistance for local cancer patients and their families for nearly 15 years – in addition to regular donations to enhance equipment and facilities at the hospital.
The group has about 30 members and raises money through raffles and events such as the Biggest Morning Tea and Daffodil Day, as well as receiving donations from the community.
Photo opportunity – Members of the Scone Cancer Support Group will be available for a photograph at the palliative care room, Scott Memorial District Health Service, Scone, at 10.30am Tuesday 23 February.
