Humpty Dumpty helps Scone kids

In the past two years, the Humpty Dumpty Foundation has contributed nearly $50,000 worth of medical equipment to the Paediatric Ward at Scott Memorial District Health Service, Scone.

Nurse Unit Manager of the Walter Pye Ward and Emergency Department Lesley Roser said the funding has purchased a range of equipment, assisting the staff to provide care to children who are patients.

“Generous donations like this help us provide the best care possible for our paediatric patients,” Lesley said.

“We really appreciate the support of the Humpty Dumpty Foundation, which has granted every submission we have put in for funding in the past two years,” she said.

The Humpty Dumpty Foundation is a non-profit organisation founded in 1996 to purchase medical equipment for the children of Royal North Shore Hospital.

Since then, the foundation has received overwhelming corporate and community assistance and has been able to widen its support to children’s hospitals and health services across Australia, as well as two children’s hospitals in East Timor.

“In 2008, we put in five submissions for funding for medical equipment and in 2009 put in two submissions. We were successful in all applications, resulting in approximately $46,000 being donated to our Paediatric Ward,” Lesley said.

Equipment that has been purchased includes:
• A portable suctioning machine
• Intravenous pumps
• Pumps that infuse medications in an emergency
• EZ-IO intraosseous device, which allows trained medical and nursing staff to administer resuscitative fluids and medication directly and safely in an emergency
• A monitor for the paediatric ward that allows staff to monitor a paediatric patient’s vital signs (eg: temperature, blood pressure and heart rate and rhythm)
• A monitor to measure and monitor oxygen in the blood

“We would like to say a big thank you to the Humpty Dumpty Foundation for this support. The Foundation makes a big difference and helps some of the most vulnerable people in our community – our children,” Lesley said.
