Construction starts on Manilla Multi Purpose Service and HealthOne

Issued by the NSW Minister for Health - Monday, 1 February 2010

Construction of the new combined Multi Purpose Service (MPS) and HealthOne at Manilla is now underway, and it promises to change the way the local community thinks about healthcare into the future.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Health Carmel Tebbutt welcomed the start of construction, which will be undertaken by Hansen Yuncken.

“A great deal of work has gone into planning the new Manilla MPS and HealthOne, and I would like to thank the community and staff for their input throughout the planning stages,” MsTebbutt said.

The Manilla Multi Purpose Service (MPS) and HealthOne has a total project value of $18 million. Construction began in January 2010 and is expected to be completed in 2012. Hansen Yuncken recently managed the construction of Multi Purpose Services in a number of HNE Health communities including Bingara, Tingha, Warialda and Merriwa.

The new facility will combine a range of services - from maternity and birthing facilities, emergency care, community health and GP services, to better cater to the needs of the community into the future.

The Manilla MPS will include:
• 12 acute beds
• 20 residential aged care beds
• One new birthing suite and rooms for antenatal and postnatal services
• New two-bay emergency department, complete with a more private entrance
• A new front entrance with a covered drop-off point and new carpark
• Secure sensory garden for rehabilitation patients
• A large, secure, central landscaped courtyard
The HealthOne Manilla component will include:
• Clinic rooms for Manilla GPs and other Visiting Medical Specialists
• Treatment rooms and work areas for community health
• Consultation rooms for other health professionals

The redevelopment of the existing Manilla Community Hospital will be completed in two stages. The eastern half of the hospital will be demolished initially to make way for the first section of the new facility, which will include residential aged care, domestic services, some administration rooms and the
first of the new acute care rooms.

All services at the current facility will remain on-site during the construction phases.
