Support for rural carers from multicultural backgrounds

30 September 2010

Free information sessions are being held across the region next month to support carers from multicultural backgrounds.

HNE Health Multicultural Health Liaison Officer Se Ok Ohr said there are many carers in our communities, including in the Narrabri, Inverell, Moree and Tamworth regions, who look after a loved one in isolation.

“It’s a tough job for anyone, but particularly difficult for carers who come from a multicultural background and live in a rural area,” Se Ok said.

“That’s why we’re holding free information sessions – so these people can learn about services and resources that are available to carers who look after someone who is frail/aged, disabled, and mentally ill or has a long term illness.

“It’s important all carers know that there are many support systems there to making caring for a loved one less challenging.”
