Kick-start spring with the Get Healthy Service
Spring is the perfect season for adjusting your way of living, for eating healthier and for spending more time outdoors.
And what better opportunity than springtime to kick your fitness and wellbeing up a notch? Longer days and warmer weather provide the perfect motivation.
If you are keen for a fresh start, why not enlist the help of a free health coach to support your journey?
The NSW Get Healthy Information and Coaching Service® offers participants access to their own qualified health coach who will help them set healthy lifestyle goals and support them by maintaining motivation to achieve results over a six month period.
The service can help you make healthy lifestyle changes, including providing information and ongoing one-on-one coaching on healthy eating, physical activity, and ways to achieve and maintain a healthy weight.
It is staffed by health coaches who are university qualified as dietitians, exercise physiologists, psychologists and nurses, and best of all, it’s free.
Obesity now affects more than 1.6 million adults across NSW.
Hunter New England Health’s Director of Health Promotion Karen Gillham said people across the HNE Health region had already started seeing the benefits of the Get Healthy Service, which was launched in 2009.
“With one in two Australian adults above their healthy weight range, we have high rates of lifestyle diseases such as heart disease, diabetes and arthritis,” Ms Gillham said.
“Using a qualified coach from the Get Healthy Service can help avoid these conditions. Coaches can help maintain motivation, identify problem areas and create solutions for successful lifestyle changes.
“The service is convenient and can be accessed from your own home. So, achieving a healthy lifestyle has never been easier, particularly for those of us wanting to kickstart spring with a fresh approach to health.”
For people who need some information, advice, or support, take the first step by picking up the phone today and beginning your journey towards being healthy and active.
The Get Healthy Service can be contacted for the cost of a local call on 1300 806 258, or by going to the website www.gethealthynsw.com.au. The service is confidential and free.
Get Healthy Service coaches are available Monday to Friday 8am – 8pm. They will ring you at times that suit you, in the convenience of your own home, or wherever you want. You will receive support materials, and up to ten phone calls over six months. On the website you can get information and access to tools to track your progress.
