Forster Local Health Advisory Council encourages people to Get Healthy

27 September 2010

You don’t need to join a reality television show or pay a fortune to have access to weight loss support and expert health advice.

The Forster Local Health Advisory Committee (LHAC) invites local adults to take advantage of the NSW Get Healthy Information and Coaching Service®.

The free telephone and web-based Service aims to support NSW residents aged 18 years and over to make lifestyle changes regarding healthy eating, physical activity and achieving or maintaining a healthy weight.

It is staffed by health coaches who are university qualified as dietitians, exercise physiologists and nurses. And best of all, it’s free.

Of course, making lifestyle changes is often easier said than done, and the journey can be challenging. The Get Healthy Service has therefore been developed to support people to make these lifestyle changes.

Forster LHAC member and HNE Health Community Nutritionist Kerith Duncanson is an advocate of the Get Healthy Service, saying sometimes people who need to improve their health know exactly what they need to do but struggle with how to go about it.

“The coaching component of the Get Healthy Service provides the accountability, support and encouragement that is needed to improve health habits over the long-term,” Ms Duncanson said.

“The Service is convenient and can be accessed from your own home. So, achieving a healthy lifestyle has never been easier, particularly for those of us wanting to kickstart spring with a fresh approach to health.”

For people who need some information, advice, or support, take the first step by picking up the phone today and beginning your journey towards being healthy and active.

The Get Healthy Service can be contacted for the cost of a local call on 1300 806 258, or by going to the website www.gethealthynsw.com.au. The Service is confidential and free.

The Get Healthy Service coaches are available Monday to Friday 8am – 8pm. They will ring you at times that suit you, in the convenience of your own home, or wherever you want. You will receive support materials, and up to 10 phone calls over six months. On the website you can get information and access to tools to track your progress.
