Park, sunshine and great friends could be the gift you’re looking for
Caring for others on a full or even part time basis can sometimes be stressful, especially when you’re young and trying to take care of yourself at the same time.
This is why Hunter New England Health’s Carers Unit, EDuCARE, have organised a Young Carer/Sibling Family Day at Speers Point Park. The day will be officially opened by Sue Ayre, Senior Manager of Chronic Disease and Aged Care for the Greater Newcastle Cluster. With over 200 guests already signed up for the event, it’s set to be one of EDuCARE’s biggest celebrations yet!
Not only will this be a chance for carers to relax and take time for themselves, but EDuCARE’s ‘i-care’ Young Carer/Sibling Family Day will also play host to a range of fun activities including a jumping castle, giant slide, face painting, henna tattooing, hair spraying, fun races and colouring competition with visits from the ever popular Ruby the Clown.
It’s been whispered to some of EDuCARE’s wonderful staff that a certain Mr Claus may drop by the park with goody bags for all children.
‘i-care’ Young Carer/Sibling Family Day is a chance for all young carers, siblings and their families to join in the fun and sunshine at Speers Point Park. The range of activities planned and the chance to spend some time in quality respite could be just the thing to turn your week around if you’re experiencing stress,” Manager of EDuCARE Support Service, Rose Blue said.
All young carers and their families are welcome to join in the fun at EDuCARE’s ‘i-care’ Young Carer/Sibling Family Day. A young carer is someone who helps to look after their brothers, sisters, parents, grandparents or other relative or friend who have a disability, mental illness, chronic medical condition or someone who is frail aged.
The ‘i-care’ Young Carer/Sibling Family Day will be held on Saturday 13 November 2010 at Speers Point Park (opposite the Pool) on Park Street. Festivities commence at 10:30am and conclude at 3pm. The day is free for all young carers/siblings and their families and includes a free sausage sizzle which is being sponsored by Rotary Club of Warners Bay District 9670. Please bring along a picnic rug, sunscreen and any other food or drinks you require for the day.
If you require respite, please contact the Commonwealth Carer Respite Centre on 1800 052 222 for assistance.
