Heads Up - free event helps minimise conflict

4 November 2010

Organisers of the successful ‘Evening with Merv Hughes’ and ‘What Women Want’ with Wendy Harmer are again set to deliver an event that will have Tamworth talking.

Men and women of all ages are encouraged to come to a free event called ‘Heads Up’, a workshop focussing on effective communication and minimising conflict at work and play.

Bookings are now open for Heads Up, which is being held at the Tamworth Community Centre on Thursday November 18, from 9am to 3pm.

It will be run by guest speaker Lyn Sykes, who also spoke at the popular What Women Want seminar in June.

Heads Up is being supported by Hunter New England Health, North West Slopes Division of General Practice, Industry and Investment NSW, Anglican Counselling and The Centre for Rural and Remote Mental Health.

Rural Adversity Mental Health Worker for Hunter New England Health Kate Arndell said the workshop would give participants the opportunity to improve their communication skills, gain knowledge and understanding of conflict and workshop strategies to minimise the impact of tough times.

“The ability to talk, to ask and to listen are so important when it comes to looking after our overall health and well-being and that of our families and friends,” Kate said.

“If we can improve the way we communicate overall, we can potentially minimise or prevent many of the difficult issues we face in life.

Robyn Cathcart of North West Slopes Division of General Practice said the workshop had arisen from feedback organisers received from previous events.

“Participants loved hearing Lyn Sykes speak at the women’s day and were interested in further exploring how to deal with difficult situations,” Robyn said.

“Heads Up is for both women and men and promises to be stimulating and thought provoking.”

With limited places for this exciting day RSVPs are essential. Please contact Phoebe O’Shea on 6766 1394 or poshea@nwsdgp.org.au to secure your place.
