Major upgrades at Moree imaging department

26 May 2010

Hunter New England Health is pleased to announce that work will soon begin on a $200,000 upgrade of the Medical Imaging Department at Moree District Hospital.

Improvements will include the installation of new x-ray equipment, which will provide improved image quality and greater comfort for patients.

The new x-ray unit will complement the recently completed changeover to digital radiography, which has seen the end of the x-ray film era and has connected Moree to all other Hunter New England Area Health Service sites.

The Medical Imaging Department will also be completely renovated during the upgrade.

The improvements are expected to take about three weeks and will start on Monday 31 May. They are due for completion on Thursday 17 June.

Moree Clinical Nurse Manager Bronwyn Cosh said the $200,000 upgrade would be much welcomed by both staff and patients.

“This project is a significant investment into improving facilities at Moree District Hospital for the long-term benefit of the community,” Ms Cosh said.

“Hunter New England Health is committed to providing high quality care and we are pleased to be able to deliver continuous improvements in equipment and facilities at the hospital.”

During the next three weeks, a limited range of x-rays will be available via a mobile x-ray, which will be set-up specifically for this purpose.

Imaging procedures undertaken by the private Moree Plains Radiology practice will not be affected by the renovations.

Signs will be erected to direct patients while the renovations are taking place.

“If you are visiting the hospital and have any difficulty, please ask a member of staff to help direct you,” Ms Cosh said.

“We would like to thank the people of Moree for their support during the upgrade process and ask for their understanding and patience with changes occurring during this time.”
