Calling community volunteers interested in health issues in Narrabri

13 May 2010

Narrabri District Health Service has a keen Local Health Advisory Committee that works to ensure people in the district are represented and their views on local health issues are heard.

The committee currently has one vacancy and is looking for an enthusiastic person to help it achieve its goals.

Members are joined by Health Service Manager Sharon Simpson at each of their meetings, where they discuss current services and opportunities for improvement.

Across the Hunter New England Health region, Local Health Advisory Committees serve as a conduit between a local hospital or health service facility and that particular community.

Sharon Simpson said people from all walks of life could nominate to become LHAC members.

“Ideally members would have a wide network of local contacts and knowledge, which can help us foster two-way communication between the health service and the community,” Mrs Simpson said.

“Considering the amount of change and improvement going on with the redevelopment of the Narrabri District Health Service, this is an ideal and exciting time for an enthusiastic community member to join us,” she said.

The role of the Narrabri Local Health Advisory Committee is to provide advice and input on health issues which directly affect the community.  In particular the Committee:

  • Can help influence decision-making about local health services by representing community needs, concerns and experiences
  • Is consulted about the development of, or changes to, public health services in the community, and
  • Can promote existing services and local health programs to help improve the overall health and well-being of people in the Narrabri district.

Anyone interested in joining the Narrabri Local Health Advisory Committee can contact Sharon Simpson on (02) 6799 2800 for further information and an application form.
Applications close on 8 June 2010.
