Patients invited to rate care at Glen Innes Hospital

1 June 2010

Patients at Glen Innes Hospital will be asked to rate the care they receive during their hospital stay, as part of a new trial to improve the care.

A number of patients will be asked to use small machines called Patient Experience Trackers (PETs) during their stay in hospital. Patients will be asked five questions to rate the care they have received. The health service will then receive a daily report to get an overall snapshot of what aspects of care are being provided well and which aspects of care could be improved.

Glen Innes Hospital Acting Manager Matt Krug said the Patient Experience Trackers will allow staff to get insight into what they are doing well and what can be changed for the better.

“Our staff are dedicated to providing the best possible care to the Glen Innes community, so we’re very pleased to be a part of this trial,” Mr Krug said.

“Collecting patient feedback is the first step in understanding patient satisfaction, so patients will be asked five quick and simple questions about their care.

“They will be asked about their physical and emotional care, access and waiting times, whether they have been treated with respect during their stay and whether they feel they have been involved in their care.

“By understanding how our patients rate their experiences, we can make changes to the way we provide services, to ensure we’re meeting the needs of our community.”

The Patient Experience Trackers will not record the personal details of any patients, including their name, so patients should feel confident that they are able to provide completely anonymous information back to Glen Innes Hospital.

The Patient Experience Trackers trial is being held in a number of facilities across HNE Health including Moree, Muswellbrook, Gunnedah and Glen Innes.

The Patient Experience Trackers trial is just one way HNE Health is working towards improving people’s experiences and continued excellence in healthcare.
