Doctor appointed at Quirindi Community Hospital
12 July 2010
Hunter New England Health is pleased to announce it has appointed an experienced doctor to work at Quirindi Community Hospital, and at the HealthOne Quirindi facility once it becomes operational.
Dr Bo Wong has agreed to work one week in two at Quirindi Community Hospital, starting Monday 30 August 2010.
Dr Wong was recruited by Medical Directions Australia (MDA) on behalf of HNE Health and the local community.
MDA has a proven track record of successfully providing regional hospitals with reliable medical services. The company is working in partnership with HNE Health to recruit and employ doctors, ensuring dependable, accessible and sustainable medical services for Quirindi into the long-term.
Dr Wong has lived in Tamworth for the past 10 years. Some of his recent career history includes working at Tamworth Hospital (two years), Gunnedah Barber St Medical Centre (one year), and Tamworth’s Barton Lane Practice (two years).
For the past five years, Dr Wong has overseen a successful private GP practice in Tamworth.
Dr Wong said he was very much looking forward to providing GP services for the Quirindi community, as well as working with the team at Quirindi Community Hospital.
“Now that my children are both at university, my wife and I are freer to move. Medical Directions Australia approached me to work with HNE Health at Quirindi, and I’m really looking forward to the opportunity,” Dr Wong said.
Dr Wong will work in cooperation Dr Sokiah Krishnan, who has provided high-quality GP services to the local community for many of years. The two doctors will work with other HNE Health clinicians to provide a range of primary health services.
HNE Health Director, Operations Primary and Community Networks Scott McLachlan said the appointment of Dr Wong was great news for the local community.
“The process of attracting doctors to rural areas is highly competitive, and we believe this new way of recruiting doctors – with MDA taking the lead - will enable us to improve access to health services for the local community in an innovative way.
“Hunter New England Health values the support and interest it has received from community members during the recent recruitment process, as well as from Liverpool Plains Shire Council, the North West Slopes Division of GPs and the Rural Doctors Network,” Mr McLachlan said.
Hunter New England Health is currently constructing HealthOne facility which will enable doctors, nursing and allied health staff to work closely together on the one site, adjacent to Quirindi Community Hospital.
Services at HealthOne Quirindi will focus on education, prevention, early diagnosis, better management of chronic conditions and early intervention services.
HealthOne Quirindi is due for completion in April 2011.
