Looking for local Moree volunteers
27 November 2009
The Moree Day Centre is searching for local volunteers to assist staff with transporting clients in the bus, meals, activities and while on day outings.
The centre is a place for frail aged and disabled people within the local community to socialise and participate in activities of interest.
Diversional Therapist Amanda Whan said the Moree Day Centre group meets twice a week at the Community Health Centre in Alice Street.
“We require at least two volunteers who could assist on a Tuesday or Friday,” Amanda said.
“We understand that most volunteers are involved in many other community organisations, so if you are able to give up even just one hour each week, we would love to hear from you,” she said.
“Volunteers at the Moree Day Centre can expect a valuable experience when working with the wonderful clients that visit each week.
“Training and support are available for volunteers, which will make their time at the centre both mentally stimulating and rewarding,” Amanda said.
The Moree Day Centre has been operated by the health service for almost 20 years and is partly funded by Home and Community Care (HACC).
It is staffed by a Medication-Endorsed Enrolled Nurse and a fully-qualified Diversional Therapist.
“Since January 2009, clients at the centre have almost quadrupled, increasing the need for volunteers,” Amanda said.
“We aim to provide quality activities and personal care to each individual client and support their carers and family members who need respite.
“If you are interested in volunteering with a service that values your contribution, please consider Moree Day Centre,” she said.
Community members interested in volunteering can telephone (02) 6757 0218.
