Pop in to visit a Barraba MPS resident

3 September 2009

Garvin House, the residential aged care service at Barraba Multipurpose Service (MPS), provides fantastic care for many families and residents of the Barraba district.

While the 16-bed aged care facility is an outstanding service run by dedicated nursing and support staff, there is always room for others to spend time with residents to provide stimulating activities.

That’s why Barraba MPS is asking community members to get behind this important facility by volunteering to visit Garvin House residents.

Nurse Practitioner Lorraine Dickson said the Day Centre at Garvin House provides group activities, although some residents are unable to participate.

“Some residents are unable to participate in group activities and don’t get any visitors, so if you’re able to visit a resident – even just for a couple of hours – your help would be appreciated,” Mrs Dickson said.

“Having a visitor is a welcome highlight for residents, who are often happy to just sit and have a chat.

“Being a volunteer not only brings a smile to the faces of residents when they have a visitor, it also is fulfilling for the volunteer who is giving something back to the community.”

If you’re interested in helping, Barraba MPS can provide more information about how you can become a volunteer. Please call Barraba MPS on (02) 6782 2500.
