Handle stress and learn to relax – a workshop for carers
Carers across the Hunter region are invited to attend a Health and Wellbeing Workshop for carers on coping with stress and ways to relax, which will be run by Hunter New England Health’s EDuCARE.
The Health and Wellbeing Workshop will be held on Wednesday 9 September from 9.30am to 2.45pm at Monte Pio, Cnr New England Highway and Dwyer Street in Rutherford.
The workshop will feature a number of guest speakers covering a wide range of health and wellbeing issues, including:
• Clinical Psychologist Katherine Mitchell and Psychologist Tamar Reid – who will be speaking about what is stress and how to manage it.
• Carer Support Officer Laraine Dunn – will speak about relaxation techniques for stress management.
• Tai Chi Instructor Susan Cook – will give a Tai Chi demonstration.
Carers provide support to relatives, partners, friends and neighbours afflicted by a variety of conditions, their role is often stressful and many do not have any coping strategies or relaxing techniques.
“The workshop assists the carers in their caring role by providing them with the relevant information and access to services they require in their role,” EDuCare Service Manager Rose Blue said.
“Carers who have attended previous workshops feel they now cope better and know who to contact when they are in need or in an emergency, they feel more equipped.”
The workshop will be an opportunity for carers to take advantage of the carer resources available and network with other carers experiencing similar issues.
Seating is limited and bookings are essential. Cost is $10 which includes morning tea and a light lunch.
Respite care can also be arranged.
People who would like to attend should contact EDuCARE Support Service on 49214895.
