Call for community members to reform Uralla LHAC
16 March 2009
Do you care about the health of your local community? Uralla district residents are being encouraged to take an active role in the provision of local health services by joining their Local Health Advisory Committee (LHAC).
Local Health Advisory Committees perform a vital role in advising and assisting the health service to continually improve services.
Hunter New England Health would like to reform the Uralla LHAC, which has been inactive for about 12 months.
Armidale Community Health Centre’s Marilyn McCarthy said people from all walks of life could nominate to become LHAC members.
“Ideally members would have a wide network of local connections and knowledge, which can help us foster two-way communication between the health service and the community,” Ms McCarthy said.
“We need enthusiastic Uralla residents who have an interest in improving the health of the community to join us. New and former LHAC members are welcome to apply.”
The role of the Uralla Local Health Advisory Committee would be to provide advice and input to the health service on issues which directly affect the community, including:
• To help influence decision making about local health services by providing an effective conduit from the local health service to the community and back
• To be involved or consulted in the development of, or changes to, health services in the local community, including providing advice to the health service based on members’ experience with community projects and activities
• Forge linkages with existing or planned Hunter New England Health strategic and promotional activities to maximise efforts to share important health information
Local Health Advisory Committees are a part of Hunter New England Health’s Community Engagement Network, which includes Community Forums on Health and the Area Health Advisory Committee.
If you are interested in joining the Uralla Local Health Advisory Committee, please contact Acting Nurse Unit Manager for Ongoing and Extended Care Services, Marilyn McCarthy, on (02) 6776 9771.
