Make a difference to the health of your community

Do you care about the health of your local community?  Eastlakes residents are being encouraged to take an active role in the provision of local health services by joining their local health advisory committee.

Local health advisory committees perform a vital role in advising and assisting the health service to continually improve services.  Belmont Hospital Service Manager Debbie Bradley said people from all walks of life could nominate to become members.

“We need enthusiastic Eastlakes residents who have an interest in improving the health of our community to join us,” Mrs Bradley said.

“Ideally members would have a wide network of local connections and knowledge, which can help us foster two-way communication between the health service and the community.”

The Eastlakes Health Advisory Committee works to provide advice and input to the health service on issues which directly affect our community, including:

·        To help influence decision making about local health services by providing an effective conduit from the local health service to the community and back

·        To be involved or consulted in the development of, or changes to, health services in the local community, including providing advice to the health service based on members’ experience with community projects and activities

·        Forge linkages with existing or planned Hunter New England Health strategic and promotional activities to maximise efforts to share important health information

Mrs Bradley said recent years had seen significant changes to Belmont Hospital, and it was important that the community get involved in the health service to ensure that it continues to provide top quality, relevant services to the community for years to come.

Local Health Advisory Committees are a part of Hunter New England Health’s Community Engagement Network, which includes Community Forums on Health and the Area Health Advisory Committee.
