Flu and Pneumovax Vaccine Available at Nundle

17 February 2009

Clinics will be held at Nundle Health Service in conjunction with the Barton Lane Practice to ensure residents of Nundle have full access to flu and pneumovax vaccine in time for the peak cold and flu season.

Nundle Health Service Nurse Practitioner, Sue Denison, said the vaccine is free for all residents 65 years and older or for Indigenous Australians 50 years and older.

Influenza is a highly contagious disease. Symptoms include prominent fever and cough lasting several days, headache, muscle and joint pain, sore throat and usually marked tiredness. Most people remain ill for at least seven days.

“Older people can be more susceptible to colds and flu during winter, particularly those with chronic illnesses, so I urge anyone who wants to be vaccinated to take advantage of the free clinic,” Mrs Denison said.

“Anyone else keen to be administered with a flu or pneumovax vaccine needs to arrange scripts and vaccine through their GP.”

The clinics will be held on Wednesday 11 March and Wednesday 25 March 2009.

“The service will be bulk-billed, so I encourage everyone to bring their Medicare cards for their appointments,” Mrs Denison said.
