Wingham Hospital Auxiliary calls for new members
Wingham Community Hospital Auxiliary is looking for new members to join the group.
The auxiliary is a group of dedicated volunteers who organise fundraisers for one reason – the local hospital.
Since 1996, the volunteers have raised $94,058 and all money raised has been used to upgrade facilities at Wingham Community Hospital.
But Auxiliary Secretary Joan Lawler said the current volunteers are mainly elderly people who are starting to feel the effects of their tireless community work.
“Recently we’ve lost a couple of good workers and as we get older we’ll have to cut back,” Joan said.
The auxiliary have made a fantastic effort in providing new equipment for the hospital, but Joan says more needs to be done.
“Through our fundraisers, we have bought 13 new beds and lockers, and there’s always more the hospital needs,” said Joan.
The auxiliary are looking for new members in order to continue their fundraising efforts and keep the hospital up to date with the latest facilities for patients.
“It would be great to get some young people involved who like to be on the go.”
Lower Mid North Coast Cluster General Manager Lee Davidson thanked the auxiliary for all their efforts over the years.
“We are very appreciative of all the hard work the volunteers have put into buying new medical equipment for the hospital. We can’t thank them enough for their efforts.”
