Nurses share secrets for better care

7 April 2009

Muswellbrook will host a showcase of the very best in innovative nursing and midwifery care tomorrow (Wednesday 8 April) during Hunter New England Health’s fifth annual Innovations in Clinical Practice Showcase.

Hunter New England Health’s Nurse Manager of Clinical Practice and Policy Catherine Turner said the annual event is a way for nurses and midwives from across the Area share their new ideas about providing cutting-edge patient care.

“This event has become an excellent way for our nursing and midwifery staff to come together from all over the Area to share ideas and learn from each other about new and improved ways of delivering care to patients in our region,” Ms Turner said.

“Our nurses and midwives are among the most innovative and forward-thinking in the state. Their desire to test the boundaries and revise their approach to their work is truly inspiring.”

This year the day will showcase a number of great ideas put into place in facilities across HNE Health, including projects that focus on improvement to maternity services, renal dialysis, pain management and a number of presentations which talk about overcoming distance to provide quality nursing in rural areas.

“By sharing all the secrets and tips they’ve discovered our nurses and midwives are able to constantly change their approach to their work, meaning better care for every patient.”

This year’s guest speaker will be the University of New England’s new Head of the School of Nursing Prof Steve Campbell.

The Innovations in Clinical Practice Showcase will be held at the Muswellbrook Workers’ Club on Wednesday 8 April 2009.

Media are invited to attend the showcase for interviews, photographs and footage during the day.
