Major milestone for Scott Memorial Hospital

For the past 95 years, Scott Memorial Hospital has served the community of Scone and its surrounding districts. On Saturday 4 October, past and present staff from the hospital will reunite and celebrate almost a century of health care.

Retired nurse and one of the main organisers’ of the event, Jan McPhee said there has been  a huge response in the number of people coming to the reunion.

“We are expecting around 150 people. It’s been 20 years since the hospital has held a reunion and I’m sure there will be plenty of story telling,” Ms McPhee said.

Scott Memorial Hospital was officially opened in 1913, in honour of Dr. H.J.H Scott who was a very well-respected country physician, as gratitude to his health care work and service.

“We have two ex-doctors and three local doctors attending the event plus past nurses and managers. Miss Elma Griffin who was the Chief Executive Officer of Scott Memorial Hospital and worked at the facility for more than 43 years will also be attending,” Mrs McPhee said.

One of the current local doctors’ Dr. Richard Abbott will be one of the guest speakers and three generations of the same family who have all worked at the hospital will be attending.

“All the past and present staff members will have lots to talk about, including some very funny tales about times gone by and what’s install for the future of the health service,” she said.

Scott Memorial Hospital Health Service Manager, Judy Bernasconi said on Sunday 5 October between 10.30am and 12.30pm, we will be conducting guided tours of the hospital with expert historians on hand to talk the community through the current facilities and the changes over the past 95 years.

“It’s a great opportunity for the local community to join in the celebrations and really be proud of the quality health service Scott Memorial Hospital has become,” Ms Bernasconi said.

Media are invited to attend the hospital tour on Sunday 5 October starting at 10.30am at Scott Memorial Hospital.
