Fall in love with a healthy breakfast

National Nutrition Week – 12-18 October

Enjoying a healthy breakfast is an important part of our day, whether it be at home, at school or at work.
As part of National Nutrition Week, Hunter New England Health is encouraging schools and workplaces to promote the importance of breakfast.
Community Dietitian at Armidale Community Health Centre, Erin Unsworth, said eating a healthy breakfast was the central theme of this year’s National Nutrition Week.
“National Nutrition Week encourages us all to ‘fall in love with food’ by discovering the pleasures of sharing a nutritious meal, enjoying fresh foods cooked from scratch, exploring new tastes and choosing a balance of foods that promote our health and wellbeing,” Ms Unsworth said.
“Breakfast is often touted as the most important meal of the day, however, many Australian adults and children continue to skip breakfast.
“Busy lives and bad habits are often responsible for this. Breakfast really is an important part of your daily routine and should be made a priority.
“Breakfast can improve concentration and performance at work and school, give our bodies a kick start in the morning and even assist with weight management.”
There are plenty of healthy and tasty breakfast choices. Why not celebrate National Nutrition Week by taking time to enjoy a tasty, healthy breakfast whether it be at home, work or school.
Some great breakfast ideas include fresh or canned fruit and yoghurt, wholegrain breads and cereals, or a delicious smoothie made with your favourite fruit, reduced-fat milk and yoghurt.
