Carers encouraged to join the party at Guyra
10 October 2008
The vital role carers play in our society will be highlighted during Carers Week, with Guyra Multi Purpose Service (MPS) supporting the awareness campaign by hosting a Carers Week Party on Wednesday 15 October.
Most carers place their own needs low down on their list of priorities, however, Carers Week is designed to encourage carers to come together, support one another and share ideas and information.
Organised in conjunction with Guyra Cares and Guyra Adult Learning Association, the Carers Week Party is designed to provide carers of all ages and backgrounds with a day of fun, food and fellowship.
The event will be held at the Guyra MPS HACC room, starting at 11.30am. Entertainment will kick-start the day, followed by a free barbecue lunch and a celebration cake to be cut by celebrity guests.
At 1.30pm, David Maddigan will speak to carers about preparing for future health care needs – also known as Advance Care Directives. David's humorous approach to serious topics has attracted a growing number of people to the monthly Guyra Cares meetings, with 38 people attending the last session held at Guyra MPS.
An afternoon tea will follow at 3.30pm, and if there is time to spare, more entertainment will follow. Prizes will be up for grabs throughout the day.
Free transport is available to and from the Guyra MPS HACC room.
If you need transport please ring either (02) 6738 4047 or (02) 6738 4000 and leave your phone number and address for pick-up and return.
For catering purposes, please RSVP for the party by phoning (02) 6738 4047 or (02) 6738 4000 by Monday 13 October.
Carers Week is an annual, nation-wide event held from 19 to 25 October. The event was established to promote and raise awareness of the valuable role that carers play in our community and to generate discussion about carer issues.
