Occupational therapy for little ones needs big support

Paediatric occupational therapy service could soon be available at Moree Community Health Service, if community support is anything to go by.

Occupational Therapist for Moree District Health Service Anna Kubowicz commenced in the role earlier this year, increasing existing Occupational Therapy services to five days a week.

As a full time staff member, Ms Kubowicz hopes to use two of her five days to provide occupational therapy care for children in the Moree region.

“I’m excited about the prospect of delivering a new and really valuable service, so that parents who have children requiring occupational therapy can access care in the local community,” she said.

Ms Kubowicz is undertaking a community fundraising to purchase new equipment which will supplement the proposed paediatric service.

“As part of the new service, it would be really beneficial to have child-friendly and child-specific equipment for occupational therapy and rehabilitation care,” she said.

Community Health staff will be holding a Trash and Treasure market on Saturday 17 May, between 10am and 2pm on the hospital grounds to support fundraising for the proposed service.

“With the money raised from the market, we hope to be able to purchase paediatric therapy cushions, a therapy table, specialised writing tools and books, educational and therapeutic resources such as CD’s, toys and puzzles to enhance the service,” Ms Kubowicz said.

A number of local businesses have generously donated items to be raffled at Saturday’s Trash and Treasure market, including gift cards for major retailers in the area.

“I would love to meet the mums and dads of Moree this weekend at the market,” Ms Kubowicz said.

“It would be wonderful to see their endorsement for a new paediatric service in the Moree region. The provision of any health service needs the support of local families to ensure we are providing quality healthcare for the local community,” she said.

A Trash and Treasure market, raffle and sausage sizzle will be held Saturday 17 May from 10am to 2pm in the grounds of Moree District Health Service. Businesses wishing to donate prizes or show their support for the paediatric service can contact Anna Kubowicz on (02) 6757 0200.
