New Urologist appointed at Tamworth and Armidale

30 April 2008

Tamworth and Armidale Hospitals wish to welcome the appointment of Urologist* Dr Gias Ahmed.

Dr Ahmed commenced work at the hospitals last week and said he had been impressed by his experiences in the hospitals.

“Tamworth Hospital has a good reputation,” Dr Ahmed said.

“The staff have been very warm and welcoming so I’m looking forward to getting to know the community better.”

Originally from Bangladesh, Dr Ahmed completed his medical degree at the University of Chittagong.

He studied his speciality, urology, in Durban, South Africa before moving to Australia to gain further experience at Sydney’s Royal Prince Alfred and Nepean hospitals, and most recently John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle.

Dr Ahmed said the career opportunity that Tamworth offered and the community’s more relaxed country lifestyle were what attracted him to the area.

“Myself, my wife and daughter are looking forward to becoming part of the Tamworth community,” Dr Ahmed said.

“We will permanently relocate to Tamworth and hope to live on a block of land so we can keep horses.”

General Manager of Tamworth and Armidale Hospitals Fergus Fitzsimons welcomes Dr Ahmed to the position.

“Dr Ahmed’s appointment is great news for our hospitals,” Mr Fitzsimons said.

“It demonstrates that Tamworth and Armidale hospitals both have good reputations which is helping us attract more specialists to the area.

“We welcome Dr Ahmed and his family and look forward to working with him.”
