Building work underway at Belmont Hospital

Building work to upgrade services at Belmont Hospital is getting underway this week.

Belmont Hospital Service Manager Debbie Bradley said the work involves several projects and is expected to be completed by Christmas.

“The Outpatients Department will be updated and extended and there will be a further upgrade to the Emergency Department, including modifications to the waiting and reception areas,” Ms Bradley said.

“As part of the construction work, the GP Access After Hours Service will be relocated from the Emergency Department to the Outpatients Department.

“We are also building a new, modern equipment sterilising department, which will significantly enhance our ability to process instruments on-site.”

Ms Bradley said the construction team and hospital staff are working together to ensure there is no disruption to services.

“All hospital services will continue to be provided as normal,” Ms Bradley said.

“The temporary relocation of clinics and construction work within the emergency department may cause some inconvenience for patients and visitors, but we’ll be doing our best to keep this to a minimum.

“Members of the public should also be aware that trucks will be entering and exiting the hospital grounds during construction.”

Ms Bradley said the benefits of the building works far outweigh any temporary inconvenience.

“Belmont Hospital has been through a period of significant redevelopment, and these latest upgrades will further improve facilities and access to care for the people of Lake Macquarie,” Ms Bradley said.
