New Aboriginal Liaison Officer enjoys Rotary refurbished office
10 July 2008
It’s not only Hunter New England Health who welcomed the new appointment of Debbie Mundy as the Armidale Hospital Aboriginal Liaison Officer. Armidale Rotary Club has chipped in $7,000 and many hours of work to refurbish the room and make sure her office couldn’t be missed.
The bright red door in the corridor heading towards the radiology department, will now be home to the Armidale ALO (Aboriginal Liaison Officer).
Tamworth and Armidale Hospital General Manager, Fergus Fitzsimons said he was delighted to announce Debbie Mundy’s commencement. She started in the ALO role this week and is looking forward to getting to know hospital staff, her new role and the Armidale community better.
"I am a Kamilaroi woman originally from Collarenebri in North West NSW," Debbie said.
"I have two sons with young families living here in Armidale, which is the reason I have relocated to Armidale.
"Previous to moving here I was an Aboriginal Health Worker with the Walgett Aboriginal Medical Service for nine years," she said.
Debbie describes her new role as Aboriginal Liaison Officer as
• Liaising between the inpatients, their families and staff, keeping the lines of communication open between all parties; and
• Offering support to Aboriginal patients and their families during their stay in hospital.
Debbie is available at the Hospital between 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday, contactable directly on 6776 9670 or through the switchboard.
She said that even though her position does not provide transport, she is happy to assist with organising it through the HNEHealth Transport for Health scheme.
