Have a laugh and put your body over the pits
If you’d like to hear more about keeping healthy while enjoying a belly-laugh why not head to the Barraba RSL on Saturday 23 August?
The Men’s Health Comic Night, to be held between 6pm and 9pm, will include talks from several health professionals promoting prostate health, stroke and diabetes.
Barraba Health Service Health Promotion Coordinator Allison Groth said this year’s event would feature renowned stand up comic, Dave Grant.
“David will be on-hand to shake things up a bit on the night by providing a few laughs,” Alison said.
“He’s one of Australia’s most popular and versatile stand-up comic acts around and has performed throughout Australia, New Zealand and USA.
“Dave is a passionate advocate for Men’s Health, which he conveys through his stand-up acts.”
As well as guest speakers and a comic act, the evening will also involve a PIT STOP Program, where men can put their body over the pits.
“Men are usually great at looking after their cars and tools but tend to neglect the very thing that can help them get the best out of life – their health,” Alison said.
“Pit Stop is a free health check-up program that likens parts of the male anatomy to an engine as a fun way to talk about health issues. Men can have their oil levels (blood pressure) tested, spare tyre (girth) checked and asked if their sound system (hearing) is in good order.
“They’ll even get the chance to talk exhaust emissions (smoking) and how to check their ball bearings (testicular cancer),” she said.
Allison said the mechanical concept brings an element of humour to men’s health and removes it from a clinical setting.
“The challenge to the men from Barraba and surrounding communities is to see if their body will pass the pits with flying colours or be needing follow-up maintenance work.”
The Men’s Health Comic Night is sponsored by Foundation 49, so bring your wife, partner, husband or a friend (over 18) and enjoy a FREE laugh and some supper.
Bookings are essential for catering purposes. Tickets are available from Barraba Health Service by calling on 6782 2500.
