Lions rally for Tamworth Hospital

03 April 2008

The Lions Club of Tamworth will once again show their unfailing support for Tamworth Hospital today when they donate $63,900 to help purchase some additional equipment.

The Lions will officially hand over the cheque at a thankyou morning tea held at the Tamworth Hospital Imaging Department this morning at 10.30am.

The sum will be used to buy a Gamma Probe, a Heart Stress Test Machine to monitor patients in the recently-upgraded cardiac catheterisation laboratory (cath lab), a Foetal Heart Monitor for the Maternity Ward and a Defibrillator for the Medical Ward.

Lions Club of Tamworth President Peter Newley said the club had supported the hospital for many years and wasn’t going to stop any time soon.

“We believe the hard-working staff at Tamworth Hospital deserve to have the best equipment to continue their committed work, so we’re pleased to be making this donation,” Mr Newley said.

The Lions Club of Tamworth raised $20,000 of the donation through local Tamworth fundraising efforts such as a Christmas Hamper raffle the Great Duck Race held during Country Music Festival. The remaining $43,900 was made possible through a Lions NSW ACT Save Sight and Healthcare Foundation grant.

General Manager of Tamworth and Armidale Hospitals Fergus Fitzsimons thanked the Lions Club of Tamworth for their generous contribution.

“The Lions Club of Tamworth are great supporters of the hospital and we hope the tradition can continue into the future,” Mr Fitzsimons said.

“I’d also like to thank the community for supporting the Lions in their fundraising efforts.”

Media are invited to attend the morning tea. It will be held at 10.30am today (3 April) in Tamworth Hospital’s Medical Imaging Department.
