Lioness Club chips in for cancer comfort
28 February, 2008
Armidale Hospital’s Quiet Room will have a few more comforts thanks to a kind donation from the Glen Innes Lioness Club.
The club will present staff at the oncology unit with a microwave, a box of toys and magazines and information packages about Armidale tomorrow (29 February).
Glen Innes Lioness Marion Jackson, who also co-ordinates the Glen Innes Cancer Support Group, said many Glen Innes cancer patients travelled to Armidale each week for chemotherapy and the Lioness Club believed it was important for patients, their family and friends to be comfortable as possible while visiting the hospital.
“Some friends and family can wait for up to four hours while their loved one receives treatment so we’re hoping this donation will make that time a little more comfortable,” Marion said.
“Now they’ll be able to sit back with a hot drink and read a magazine or find some attractions in the information packs we’ve provided and get out and about in the city for a few hours.”
General Manager of Tamworth and Armidale hospitals Fergus Fitzsimons thanked the Glen Innes Lioness Club for its support.
“We would like to express our appreciation to the Glen Innes Lioness Club for its ongoing support and the kind donation,” Mr Fitzsimons said.
The presentation will be made tomorrow (Friday, 29 February) at 3pm in the Armidale Hospital Quiet Room. Media are invited to attend.
