Tenterfield Health Service announcements

Following last week’s announcement about the review at Tenterfield Health Service, Hunter New England Health’s Acting Chief Executive has reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining and improving health services in Tenterfield with a number of announcements today.

Acting Chief Executive Dr Nigel Lyons said community members should feel reassured by the review.

“Local people should feel reassured that the health service is committed to providing high quality care and that we have processes in place to review any situations where there are questions related to the level of care delivered,” Dr Lyons said.

“Providing health services is a tough job and we greatly appreciate the commitment of our staff at Tenterfield, and we’re offering them support as this review is undertaken.

“I also remind people that it’s important that no judgements or assumptions are made before the review is completed.

“Our commitment to the hospital has also been reaffirmed with the recent announcement of a dentist commencing in October, providing a two day a week service from Tenterfield Health Service.

“I’m also pleased to announce a radiographer will provide services at Tenterfield from later next month and we’ve also been able to secure locum medical services all of this week and this weekend - which means emergency services will continue to be available at the hospital.

“The locums will be able to provide important support to GPs and, most importantly, ensure community members continue to have access to emergency care locally.”

Dr Lyons also announced that Mr Ken Hampson, currently General Manager of the Lower Mid North Coast Cluster, would start at the hospital this week as the Acting Tenterfield Health Service Manager.

“Mr Hampson will work alongside Tablelands Cluster General Manager Wendy Mulligan while we work through the review. It’s important that we have a senior manager to assist on site and Mr Hampson will be working at the health service from Tuesday,” Dr Lyons said.

“These recent announcements are further evidence of our commitment to Tenterfield Hospital now and in the future.”
