Independent External Review
Hunter New England Health has confirmed an independent external review of Tenterfield Health Service will commence this week by a team of experts with backgrounds in rural health facilities.
Hunter New England Health’s Acting Chief Executive Dr Nigel Lyons said the external review follows on from an internal review of activity from the last six months - to ensure the Health Service is complying with relevant legislation, regulations and policies regarding patient safety.
“We’ve listened to the concerns of the community and are now seeking external advice to make sure we have thoroughly identified ways to improve the existing service,” Dr Lyons said.
“The independent review team will make recommendations to the Chief Executive and identify any additional actions that need to be implemented.
“We want to be sure we have independent advice and that it’s a transparent process,” Dr Lyons said.
The independent review team comprises of medical and nursing experts with experience working in a rural hospital setting.
• A lead reviewer with experience in senior health service management in the rural setting
• A general practitioner with experience in a small rural setting, who can also provide peer advice to local GPs
• A nurse with experience in rural hospital practice and management
Dr Lyons said he understood it is a difficult time for staff and community members and appreciated their contribution during this time.
“Ensuring safe, quality services is something the community expects from us - it’s something we take seriously and we make no apologies for that,” Dr Lyons said.
Radiographer to commence in Tenterfield mid October
Dr Lyons reaffirmed the Health Service’s commitment to Tenterfield and announced that from 15 October 2007, a radiographer would be on site at the hospital three days a week to provide radiography services. In additional a dentist will start in October 2007, providing a two-day a week service from Tenterfield Health Service.
“These recent announcements are further evidence of our commitment to Tenterfield Health Service now and in the future,” Dr Lyons said.
