Free Family Fun Day!

Free Family Fun Day!

17 September 2007

There are special awareness weeks for this and weeks for that, but this year Glen Innes community groups will combine several celebrations into one huge event - A Family Fun Day to be held on Saturday 13 October between 10am and 2pm with music, entertainment and a free barbecue.

This free event will recognise Child Protection Week which falls in September, Foster Care Week in October and Domestic Violence Week in December.  A number of local organisations are involved including Glen Innes Family and Youth Support, Hunter New England Health and the Department of Community Services. It is also supported by Glen Innes Severn Council.

One of the coordinators, Primary Health Care Nurse Kirsty MacDougall, said the day is shaping up to be an exciting event.

She said not only will there be lots of free fun opportunities, but it will also be an information day for families.

“Local government and non-government agencies will be represented so attendees will be able to receive information on the services that are available to them within the local community.

“Often community members are unaware of organisations that are available when they, a friend or family member requires help.

“It will also be a great networking opportunity for community organisations. It’s important for us to know what services are available so we can refer people in need to the most appropriate service.

“The highlights include a jumping castle, face painting and a free barbecue, as well as music and entertainment for the whole family,” she said.
