Caring for children with special needs

EDuCARE Support Service, a unit of Hunter New England Health, invites carers and staff who care for children with special needs to attend a practical workshop that focuses on effective and interactive communication.

Special guest speaker is speech therapist and augmentative communication consultant Ylana Bloom, who will talk about visual strategies for communication in daily life and how to manage behaviours of concern.

The workshop will also look at how to combine a behavioural and communication approach to managing frustration that may arise during the course of the day while caring for children with special needs.

This day also provides an excellent networking opportunity, access to carer resource material and a morning tea and light lunch.
