Not just for laughs: Revue has a serious side

Tamworth Hospital Revue, Tamworth Town Hall, 9 and 10 November 2007

If you want to see some talented locals performing, would like to support a great cause or just need a good belly laugh: The Tamworth Hospital Revue is back!

It’s been a few years since the people of the Tamworth Community have come together with Hospital staff to enjoy a night of laughs, great talent and community spirit and Revue organizer Robyn Pittman thinks its high time it happened again.

The event is held to raise money for Tamworth Hospital, with almost $80,000 worth of equipment currently on the organising committee’s wish-list.  This includes much-needed upgrades and some new equipment for cardio patients, cancer patients and unborn babies.

It may seem like an unrealistic figure, but thanks to the support of the Tamworth Lions Club and NSW Lions Sight and Healthcare as well as the local hospital Auxiliary, the tally is nearing $70,000.

“I am hoping to raise $10,000 from the revue, which should be possible given the level of community support as well as the involvement of staff that we have here,” Mrs Pittman said.

“The whole community is invited to come along and enjoy the show.  There will be some great artists, like the Beating Hearts Orchestra and singers and poets, and intermingled with this genuine talent the rest of us will get up there to make fools of ourselves in comedy skits and so forth.

“There’ll be a lot of laughs, but it’s all for a good cause,” she said.

The revue will be held at the Town Hall on Friday and Saturday, 9 and 10 November.  Tickets are $15 or $10 for children and pensioners, or a family ticket (2+3) will set you back just $30.  The Hospital Auxiliary will be offering supper during the show.  Other fundraising activities you can support on the night include the sale of cookbooks featuring the favourite recipes of staff and auxiliary members; and the raffle of a patchwork quilt and a quarter of beef.

Tickets are available from John and Judy’s Newsagents or the Hospital Cashier desk.
