New skills take pressure off senior nurses
New skills take pressure off senior nurses
16 November 2007 Warialda Health Service Manager Sharon Baker has praised the achievement of two of her Enrolled Nurses - Rebecca Slater and Melanie Krug - who have completed a course, which has equipped them with qualifications to administer medications. Mrs Baker said enrolled nurses are being given opportunities that were never available to them previously and this is making life easier at health services such as Warialda. "To have an EN on duty who is endorsed to support the registered nurse when administering medications to patients, will really take the pressure off," Mrs Baker said. "Previously, the registered nurse was the only one allowed to give out and record medications which had been prescribed by doctors. "This RN is also the person in charge of the Emergency Department, making it sometimes difficult for one staff member to be in two places at once. "This is a great achievement and very much welcomed especially at smaller sites, such as Warialda. "I would like to congratulate them for their achievement and thank them for their willingness to continually look at ways to improve their skills and the services we are able to offer at the health service," Mrs Baker said.
