Information for carers about health and wellbeing

14 November 2007

Hunter New England Health is inviting carers from all over the Hunter to attend a health and wellbeing information event to further their understanding of the person they are caring for and the support services available.

The EDuCARE Health and Wellbeing Workshop for carers will be held on Wednesday 21 November from 9.30am to 2.15pm at the Monte Pio, corner New England Hwy and Dwyer Streets, Maitland.

EDuCARE Support Service Manager Rose Blue is encouraging all carers to come along and learn about how to maintain their own health and wellbeing while looking after someone else’s.

“We are encouraging people who are carers to come along to this information forum because we are covering a range of topics, including stress management, practical skills and community resources,” Ms Blue said.

“It’s also a great opportunity for carers to get information about free resources that may help them in their roles as carers,” she said.

“This meeting is going to be particularly interesting as we will also include a fun and laughter session to get everyone involved.”

Carers can be parents, partners, brothers, sisters, friends, neighbours or children of any age, who care for someone a couple of hours a week or all day every day - all are encouraged to attend the information session.

This meeting of the EDuCARE group will cost participants $10 each and includes morning tea and a light lunch.

Respite care may be arranged if needed.

Those wishing to attend can contact Tracy at the EDuCARE Support Service on 4921 4895. Prior notice of attendance is necessary for catering purposes.
