Cancer treatment boost for Singleton Hospital

he Singleton Cancer Appeal Committee has donated $27,000 in funding to Singleton Hospital to see the acquisition of surgical equipment that will complement the hospital’s existing capabilities.

Staff at Singleton Hospital are delighted at the generous donation from the committee, allowing them to upgrade their early diagnosis capacity.

The equipment consists of cystoscope and laparoscope technology used to identify cancer related abnormalities in gynaecological and urological procedures.

Singleton Hospital Health Service Manager Wendy Mason-Jones acknowledged the Singleton Cancer Appeal Committee for their outstanding contribution.

“Singleton Hospital appreciates the dedicated and committed support of the local Singleton Cancer Appeal Committee, which makes a real difference to the health of the Singleton community,

“Donations such as this, allow the surgeons to combine their high level of expertise with contemporary surgical equipment in a rural setting,” Ms Mason-Jones said.

Singleton Hospital Nurse Unit Manager Tessa Capsanis also acknowledged that the new technology was not only a generous donation but a helpful addition amid the hospital’s efforts to offer a higher quality of service.

“We are so appreciative of the efforts of the Appeal Committee to provide this donation, it will have a number of positive consequences,

“This new technology will allow more procedures of this nature to occur in Singleton, whereas in the past people have had to travel, this will consequently alleviate the pressure on waiting lists at other hospitals,” Ms Capsanis said.

The funding for this equipment was also made available upfront by the Singleton Cancer Appeal Committee, which meant the hospital did not have to part with a significant amount of funding to purchase the equipment.
