Fond Farewell to Dr Elsokkary
Egyptian born Dr Samir Elsokkary, has made the decision after four years working at Emmaville and Ashford, to join his wife and two daughters back in Sydney from the end of July, but will be missed by many in the small Emmaville community.
Emmaville Health Service Manager, Roseanne Rowe, said Dr Elsokkary initially came to Emmaville under a three year contract with the Glen Innes Severn Council, but has stayed an additional twelve months.
During this time he has provided a two day a week service to Ashford and cared for community members and the residents of Vegetable Creek Multi Purpose Service.
“Not only has he provided excellent medical care, he has gained a great deal of respect from the community and we wish him every success and happiness in the future.
“I imagine just about everyone has had something to do with Dr Elsokkary over the years. People may recall seeing him cooking the barbecue at the recent hospital fete, being our official photographer or in his surgery in the hospital building.
“We sincerely appreciate all he has contributed to this community,” she said.
Having undertaken his training in Egypt, New Zealand and most recently a Diploma in Skin Diseases through Cardiff University, Mrs Rowe said the community has been very fortunate to have someone of his skill working in the area.
Mrs Rowe said strategies have already commenced to find a replacement, and they are hopeful the recruitment process will be fast and a replacement doctor will be appointed as soon as possible.
