Easing cancer treatment in Moree

Chemotherapy patients at Moree District Health Service now have dedicated use of a Baxter Colleague Intravenous Pump, which has been donated to the Moree Outreach Chemotherapy Service.

Members of the Moree Breast Cancer Support Group have donated proceeds from recent fundraising efforts to purchase the equipment, which will be used to deliver intravenous fluids such as chemotherapy treatment to patients.

Nurse Unit Manager Sue Coleman said the new equipment would benefit patients and staff alike.

“In April, we had 17 presentations for chemotherapy treatment. May looks set to be a busier month for us, with 11 presentations for chemotherapy treatment to date,” Ms Coleman said.

“It is reassuring for staff and patients that we have access to modern, industry standard equipment which is dedicated for exclusive use in the chemo unit.

“The IV pump allows us to set programs to safely deliver intravenous fluids and drug doses to patients,” Ms Coleman  said.

Ms Coleman said the support of local community organisations such as Moree Breast Cancer Support Group strengthened links with the health service and local community.

“We have a close relationship with the Cancer Support Group which benefits our present, and future patients, and the Moree community.

“Their ongoing support is welcomed, and we sincerely thank the members for their generosity,” Ms Coleman said.
