Workshop to help Hunter carers gain awareness and coping skills
13 July 2007
Hunter New England Health is inviting carers from the Hunter to attend an information day to help them gain a greater understanding of themselves and the person they are caring for.
The Awareness and Coping Skills for Carers workshop will be held on Thursday 26 July from 9.30am to 2.30pm at Wests Leagues Club, New Lambton.
There will be a number of guest speakers, including:
- Clinical Psychologist Robyn Cody – who will discuss mental health and emotional wellbeing issues, signs to be aware of and where to turn.
- Brian Lamb and Coralie Reeve, from Lifeline and ARAFMI – who will talk about coping skills.
- Robyn Nugent from the Black Dog Institute – who will speak about living with a disability from a carer’s perspective.
“We are encouraging people who are carers to take some time to gain an understanding of themselves and the person they care for by hearing from our guest speakers and also networking with other carers,” EDuCARE Support Service Manager Rose Blue said.
“It’s also a good opportunity for people to access free carer resource materials that may help them in their roles as carers,” Ms Blue said.
The workshop has been prepared by the working party of the Carer Reference Group, in conjunction with Hunter New England Health’s EDuCARE Support Service.
Seating is limited and bookings are essential. Cost is $10 and includes morning tea and a light lunch.
Respite care can also be arranged.
People wishing to attend this workshop should contact EDuCARE Support Service on 4921 4895.
