Lioness-hearted donation to Banksia Unit
A generous donation from the Lioness Club of Tamworth will boost activities available for patients at Banksia Mental Health Unit.
The members of the Lioness Club of Tamworth have donated a DVD/CD player, three exercise balls and a number of board games to the unit for patient use.
Nurse Unit Manager for Banksia Mental Health Unit Ali Harding said the staff were very grateful to the members of the Lioness Club of Tamworth for their generous donation.
“We are always very grateful for the support of our community and it’s pleasing to see the members of the Lioness Club of Tamworth have thought of us to benefit from their tireless fundraising activities,” Ms Harding said.
“This donation will be very much appreciated and put to good use by our patients.”
Roz Norman from the Lioness Club of Tamworth said the club was formed in 1998 and has about 30 current members.
“The members fundraise and also do community work, such as help with areas of need, co-ordinating the wig library for cancer patients, sending disadvantaged children to holiday camps on the coast and creating Christmas boxes for children in countries or situations where they would not normally receive gifts,” Mrs Norman said.
“Our main focus is to have fun while helping others.”
Each year in June, the members of the Lioness Club of Tamworth distribute funds to numerous groups or good causes.
This year, they have chosen to provide this equipment to the Banksia Mental Health Unit – along with other donations to organisations such as Billabong Cottage, North West Life Education Centre, Meals on Wheels, Spinal Cord Foundation, Australian Lions Foundation and the Australian Lions Drug Awareness Foundation, among others.
Just over $9000 has been distributed this year.
The Lioness Club of Tamworth has also allocated $500 for the purchase a new clinical probe for the Emergency Department at Tamworth Hospital.
The probe will provide Emergency Department staff with the ability to increase visualisation during examinations of women.
