Parenting as easy as one, two, three

3 December 2007

Parents of children between the ages of three and 12 in and around Gunnedah will be given a chance to hear a few simple steps for positive parenting coming into this holiday season.

The 1,2,3 Magic Parenting training program teaches parents the simple ways to minimise uncontrollable and disruptive behaviour in their children.

The 1,2,3 Magic Parenting program supports a calm approach, teaching parents to support their children to control difficult behaviour and begin positive behavioural patterns.

Gunnedah Community Health Social Worker Terri-Ann Wallace, one of the two program presenters said the program is designed to reinforce rational parenting and also gives the opportunity for parents to have a support group which will continue to help them once the program has ended.

“It is planned that a follow-up parenting group will be formed from this presentation of the program, which will support parents to implement the principles discussed in the program and problem solve around any issues that arise for them,” Ms Wallace said.

The 1,2,3 Magic Parenting program will be run over two sessions, taking place on Wednesday 12 and Thursday 13 December from 12 noon to 2.30pm in the Education Room at Gunnedah Health Service on Marquis Street. Registration for the program is free and attendants will receive a light lunch during each session.

Registration for this training program is open to the community and can be made by ringing Gunnedah Health Service on 6741 8000 between 8.30am and 5pm Monday to Friday.
